This short tour is also ideal for cycling beginners.
The Weser cycle path starts directly at the Hotel Stadt Hameln, which we use for our cycle tour to Rinteln. The distance to Rinteln is 29,7 km (18,45 miles) , which can be cycled without ascents.
The first thing to do in Rinteln is to discover the historic Weser Renaissance town.
Worth seeing in Rinteln is:
- The Old Harbour, directly on the Weser promenade. The new bridge over the old harbour connects the governor’s island to the Weser promenade via a circular walkway.
- Small but nice is the old town of Rinteln, which was built in the Middle Ages. Around the market square you will find cosy cafés and restaurants, and if the weather is nice, just take a seat outside. The town hall and the Eulenburg are particularly worth seeing.
- The Eulenburg dates from the 15th century and served as the town house for the priors of the nearby Möllenbeck Monastery in the Middle Ages. From 1651, the Eulenburg was the seat of the Hessenschaumburg government. Today, the Eulenburg houses the town history museum with interesting collections.
- You can also reach the Hohenrode floodplain landscape by bicycle. The floodplain landscape lies directly on the Weser in a loop of the stream. It is only four kilometres from the old town of Rinteln in the district of Hohenrode, of which the Auenlandschaft is a part. The Auenlandschaft is a unique natural jewel on 115 hectares.
After a relaxed sightseeing programme and a leisurely stop for refreshments, you can return to Hameln either by bicycle, by regional express (runs hourly and takes 16 min) or by the Weser Fleet.
