Hamelin is well known to long-distance cyclists. And the Hotel Stadt Hameln, with its direct location on the Weser Cycle Path, is a well-known and popular meeting place, especially as a stop-over for long-distance cyclists.

Hameln is a starting point for long-distance cycling

However, more and more holidaymakers who enjoy cycling on holiday are discovering the advantages of spending their holidays in one place and taking wonderful day trips along well-maintained cycle paths. Hamelin is increasingly becoming the starting point for star rides, because not only the Weser Cycle Path, which is perfectly accompanied by the Weser Fleet, offers wonderful excursion possibilities for every taste. The advantage, of course, is that you don’t have to carry your luggage with you during the day and the hotel room is a cosy relaxation area without the constant checking in and out.

Hameln offers numerous excursion destinations by bike. Komoot lists almost 20 tours. So there’s plenty for cycling holidaymakers to discover.

Our tip for today is the Hamelin – Barntrup – Bad Pyrmont – Hamelin circular cycle route

With a distance of 60 km, this circular cycle route is suitable for sporty cyclists and e-bikers.

Short description: Circular cycle route Hameln – Groß-Berkel – Aerzen – Grießem (past the Elkenberg) – Sonneborn – Barntrup – Hagen – Bad Pyrmont – past the Emmer to Emmerthal – via Ohr back to Hameln, to the Hotel Stadt Hameln.

The special features of this circular route:

  • The old railway line between Groß Berkel and Grießem is truly a green tunnel. The route begins at the western edge of Groß Berkel and leads in the direction of Sonneborn. You ride along the former railway line for approx. 7 km.
  • From Grießem to Sonneborn you enjoy a beautiful, traffic-free route.
  • You should take some time for Bad Pyrmont. Check24 has named Bad Pyrmont one of the three most beautiful small towns in Germany. The Bad Pyrmont Zoo is worth a visit, as are the old town, Pyrmont Castle with its museum and the spa gardens. You will find numerous places to stop for refreshments to suit all tastes.
  • The route continues along the romantic Emmer river to Emmerthal, where you almost meet the Weser again.
    There are a total of 400 metres in altitude to climb and the bike has to be carried over a few steps.
