Only 700 meters from the Hotel Stadt Hameln the Hamelner Stadtwald begins. A paradise for hikers and walkers
The Stadtwald Hameln is a protected landscape area, which is only about 700 meters away from the Hotel Stadt Hameln. The Hamelin city forest offers more than 40 km of walking and hiking trails. From Hotel Stadt Hameln you simply cross the Weser bridge Münsterwall in the direction of Europaplatz and turn onto Klütstraße and you are in the city forest. A nearby popular hiking destination is Hameln’s local mountain Klüt. At a height of approx. 260 meters there are remains of the fortifications built in the 18th century. There is also an observation tower that invites you to climb it. A wonderful view of the Weser valley and the old town are the reward for the ascent.
Here is our tip for an approx. 8 km long circular hike with the intermediate destinations Klütturm, Forsthaus Finkenborn, the Wiengrundbach, Klein Berkel and the Felsenkellerweg.
- From the Klütstraße turn off after about 500 meters onto the Finkenorner Weg and follow the signs to the Klütturm on our local mountain Klüt.
- After you have climbed the tower and enjoyed the view extensively, you continue on the Finkenborn in the direction of the forester’s lodge Finkenborn. From Thursday to Sunday you plan a stop here. From 12.00 to 22.30 the restaurant is open on these days. Right next to the forester’s house Finkenborn is the climbing forest Hameln. Between May and October, climbing enthusiasts can explore the tree tops at a height of up to 14 meters, well secured.
- Freshly fortified, you continue eastwards until you reach the Wiengrundbach. Follow this stream to the edge of Klein Berkel, a district of Ohrbergpark. From there you continue to the Felsenkellerweg, where you turn left.
- Turn left onto Pflümerweg and shortly before the end turn right again onto Klütweg, which you already know from the outward journey.
In the summer you deserve an extensive rest in the beer garden of the Hotel Stadt Hameln and if it is too cold we will wait for you in the hotel bar or the restaurant.
Good to know:
Klein Berkel is one of the most popular residential areas in Hameln due to its green location. Every Thursday from 14.00 to 17.00 hours there is a cosy weekly market with fresh food from the region.
